James is a traditionalist. He likes working, his wife at his side, going to church, helping out in his community, and helping his family. A political conservative who's voted straight Republican since his 18th birthday, he doesn't like excessive government interference in his life, isn't fond of the current administration and thinks that the recession will end with a lot of hard work. He's been called brash on more than one occasion and his sons have only seen him cry twice, at his father's funeral and when they had to put his mother into a nursing home. He's always tried to make sure his family was provided for, his children happy and healthy and his wife satisfied, though when things have gone awry he has taken them in stride and done his best to deal with them. He has few friends and the ones he does have he doesn't let too close, he believes that's why god invented the institution of marriage.

History Story Lines
James Robert Bragg-Spencer was born to Donald and Elizabeth on March 15, 2964, the third son in a conservative family. A few years later followed his sister and that was the end of the Bragg-Spencer children. Growing up James and his siblings were like any other, fighting, rough housing, picking sides, and no matter what, always lying to their parents about the really big stuff. While he admired his older brothers, he was always closest with Natalie and very over protective of her. Always athletically inclined, James excelled in sports starting at an early age, playing football for both his junior high teams and his high school. This of course surpassed his first love which was actually cooking, not that he was allowed to tell anyone because boys didn't do that stuff, especially in the midwest. He was a normal high school boy, until the day he met Sharon [last name]. They had a whirl wind romance starting when they were only fifteen and by the time they were seniors, James was proposing and they were planning a way to make it on their own.
Upon turning eighteen James signed up for the army and the day after graduation he and Sharon were married by a Justice of the peace with his brothers as witnesses. A month later he was shipped to basic. His military career did not last long however, he blew his knee out in a training exercise within a year and after six months of trying to rehabilitate it, he was honorably discharged. At that point James and Sharon were left with a GI bill and no idea what they were supposed to do. His brother Andrew had taken a job in Irvington, New York, working as a a mechanic and recommended moving out there and doing what he knew his younger brother had always loved to do but had never actually done, start cooking again. After much discussion and work, he and Sharon opened BS Deli in 1984, right before they discovered that Sharon was pregnant with their first child.
James' family and business were his entire life. He adored his boys and loved the time they would spend working with him at the deli. He worked long hours the first few years, doing his best to keep them afloat as they competed with other deli's, but by the time both boys were in school they had a steady and loyal stream of customers and got by rather well. Things went well until Michael was in high school and his drug problems began. While the two had been close they gradually grew apart until Michael went to rehab in California. To this day they're still working on repairing their relationship.
Six months ago, James realized that things were not alright at home however. Sharon had developed a friendship with a man and while James was all for his wife having friends and her own interests, he was uneasy about this friendship almost from the start. When Sharon approached him saying that she thought they needed space, James agreed for her sake but only on the grounds that they went to counseling once a week. James would definitely do anything to get his wife back, especially before Matthew arrives, he just knows he has to bide his time.
